Cardiology patients benefit from the comprehensive services of an experienced multidisciplinary team along with attentive personal care and support. From cardiac emergencies to inpatient services, we emphasize clinical excellence with high quality nursing care available 24 hours by a team of nurses and nurse practitioners with specialty training in the cardiac field.

HEART FAILURE SERVICE

The heart failure service works closely with high risk patients to monitor and manage their treatment and care. The service provides evaluation and specialty care for patients with severe heart failure, including those who may require cardiac transplantation. This service also actively participates in clinical trials of new drug therapies for heart failure.

VASCULAR MEDICINE SERVICE

Diagnostic intravascular analysis is performed in conjunction with cardiac catheterization, using ultrasound to create graphic images of the heart’s structures, pumping action, direction of the blood flow, and determine the presence of aneurysms and other complex cardiac conditions. The vascular medicine service evaluates these conditions to determine each patient’s needs and implement the best plan of treatment and care.

CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE SERVICE

UNC congenital heart disease service provides care for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients with known congenital heart disease detected in childhood, as well as those with newly diagnosed or suspected congenital disease. This service also provides care and counseling for women with congenital heart disease prior to and during pregnancy.

The UNC Heart Center strives to provide the best possible medical care to the residents of North Carolina and neighboring states, while achieving international recognition for teaching and cardiovascular research. The UNC Heart Center is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and medical professionals with dedicated interest and expertise in cardiology, lipid management, cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiology. We strive to ensure the availability of the most advanced forms of diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities for clinical programs.

UNC WELLNESS CENTER AT MEADOWMONT

Patients benefit from state-of-the-art rehabilitative program facilities at UNC’s new Wellness Center at Meadowmont. The Center provides extensive resources along with personal and professional guidance designed to help members reach specific health and wellness goals. Offering a broad array of programs and services, The Wellness Center delivers a comprehensive and competent resource only available through a highly respected academic center. Owned and operated by UNC Hospitals, The Wellness Center at Meadowment is built upon a tradition of quality service provided by the UNC Health Care System.

CRITICAL CARE

UNC offers a wide spectrum of emergency and critical care services to manage patients with cardiac emergencies. Emergency ground and air transport is available for adult and pediatric patients. The cardiothoracic, pediatric, cardiac care, and critical care stepdown units provide intensive care services for treatment of all cardiac disease processes.

CHEST PAIN UNIT

UNC Chest Pain Unit works in partnership with Urgent Care to immediately diagnose and evaluate symptoms of angina, ischemic heart disease or actual heart attack. Using state-of-the-art diagnostic methods for Triage, an experienced team of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons is available 24 hours to develop an individualized strategy to meet each patient’s needs.

CARDIAC SURGERY

Patients benefit from the Heart Center’s experienced team of cardiovascular surgeons, cardiothoracic anesthesiologists, and surgical nurses, as well as operating rooms which are equipped with the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology.

CARDIAC INTENSIVE CARE

Cardiac intensive care (CICU) facilities provide expert care on a continuous basis for patients with potentially life-threatening conditions. The CICU is staffed by an experienced cardiac team 24 hours a day.

HEART STATION/ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (EKG) For Appointment: (919) 966 5121

The HEART Station offers Treadmill & Holter basic event monitoring, 24 and 48 hour recordings for pediatric and adult arrhythmia monitoring for evaluation by cardiologists to determine patient’s needs for further treatment and care. Event monitoring includes 30 days loop recording service and 24/7 access to call-in service for questions, problems or medical advice. Patients receive device education, hook-up, and disconnect services. Patients can mail in device for convenience. Outpatient and inpatient 12 lead EKG, signal averaging ECG, and their interpretation.
