RESEARCH SUMMARY

My research interest is focused on combining basic science research in molecular biology with epidemiology and bioinformatics. I am interested in studying the interactions between between genetic and environmental factors in the pathogenesis of cancer. My laboratory research is focused on studying the relationship between colorectal cancer and genes involved in folate metabolism, DNA repair, and insulin resistance as well as assessing the role of lifestyle and dietary factors. The wealth of genetic information available from the human genome project presents an excellent opportunity to identify novel genes involved in the etiology and pathogenesis of human diseases.

My second research interest is to determine biomarkers of colorectal cancer risk. Current research projects involve assessing the role of apoptosis, proliferation and the IGF-axis in colorectal carcinogenesis.
