From the Chair’s Office I am very pleased to announce that the four residents we recently selected as possible chiefs for the 2011-2012 year have all accepted the position. Britini Herbert and Paul Johnson will serve as UNC inpatient chiefs, Kristen Amann will be our outpatient chief, and Jack Kuritzky will serve at Wake. We all thank them for taking on this invaluable role. Being a chief resident for our training program is a challenging position. Our chiefs teach learners at all levels and have to be outstanding clinicians themselves. Our chiefs also have to both be supervisors and advocates for the housestaff, a challenging line to walk. They also take on all kinds of challenges that vary from year to year, as well as those that do not vary – for instance working out schedules for inpatient and outpatient rotations and being available virtually 24/7 for any new problems that may arise. Thus, we look for individuals who are dedicated to excellent patient care, exhibit the highest commitments to professionalism and who have a true program and institutional approach. As you certainly know, our current chiefs – Drs. Cheng, Haag, Proctor, and Sampson – are continuing this fine tradition as I am sure will our future chiefs. Please join me in congratulating Drs. Herbert, Johnson, Amann, and Kuritzky. |
